| Volunteer Opportunity with the Clark County School District Christina Whitney, Community Liaison On January 28, 2012 the Clark County School District will conduct
another door to door campaign to re-engage high school seniors who have not been attending school. This campaign is
called "Reclaim Your Future: It's Not Too Late to Graduate." The goal of the campaign
is to increase the District graduation rate through an intense community outreach effort that motivates at-risk students
to get back to school.
Teams composed of school district personnel,
community leaders, the Board of Trustees, and community volunteers will visit the homes of students who are not enrolled
in school, who have chronic attendance issues and are at risk of dropping out, and students enrolled but did not begin the
school year. The teams will sit down with the student and his/her parents to discuss the reasons why the student is not
in school, and what the school district can do to help get them back in the classroom. Your
help is needed! The CCSD would like you to be a part of the team to visit these students. You will be paired with
a school district person in teams of two or three people. You will be given no more than three families to visit within
a two-hour period.
On Saturday, January 28, at 8:00 a.m.,
you will report to a designated school site, where you will meet your team and participate in a brief training. Then, you
will travel with your team to meet the students and parents. The selected school sites are: Canyon Springs HS, Chaparral
HS, Cimarron-Memorial HS, Clark HS, Del Sol HS, Desert Pines HS, Eldorado HS, Las Vegas HS, Legacy HS, Liberty HS,
Mojave HS, Rancho HS and Western HS. Please email Teresa Magallon at tmagallon@interact.ccsd.net by
Friday, January 20, 2012 to volunteer. You will be sent an e-mail confirmation with school location by Wednesday,
January 25, 2012. If you have any questions, please feel free to call the School-Community
Partnership office at 799-6560. |
